We had two cold days where no work was done (God save me from Ebay!). Ben started work on the starboard forward cabin and discovered light shining through the butt joints of that cabin also, After discussion with Budgetboater, we decided to reinforce all the hull joints with plates of 9mm and 4mm plywood. Of course, we have to sand off the one coat of paint we started on the port hull last week. not the whole thing, just an area around the joints. Ben had the starboard cabin well on it's way toward paint. It doesn't look like much, but you can see light through that joint. Ben cut a bunch of reinforcing plates and we glued them on. I was the heyboy on that job. You know, "hey, boy, get this; hey, boy, do that. We also glued in steps in the forward cabin and galley. The can of varnish and tools are there to weigh down the step in the galley. I am working on the galley (still?????). I worked on storage space. Two things this boat will have: 1.)storage space and 2,) quirkiness. First I worked on a tilt-out area for under the sink. I wanted to use some of that oak with interesting grain patterns and worm holes for the face, but I'd cut it up into thin strips, so I glued it to another thin board to make a thick board, then glued everything together. My front panel is a series of boards with different thicknesses. I will have to plane it down and get some uniformity. Man! I don't know about you, but I'm sure getting sick of looking at pictures of clamps! The other storage area I worked on was under the galley seats. The benches were in place, so I cut three access panels in the seats. Then I cut some panels to glue in to finish the box Now I gotta grind the paint off to glue the panels to the hull (see: paint goes off). Maybe all this will make sense to you as soon as it makes sense to me. We still have to put those reinforcing plates in. An homage to boatbuilding, maybe.
