I Wish, The Dichotomies Of Building A Boat And Full Circle.

I wish I could have done this whole diversion faster. I wish I could have taken more time to do things better. I wish I knew more of what I was doing. Not only did I not know the answers, I did not even know the questions, I wish I worked harder every day. I wish I worked less every day. I wish  I could have spent less money. I wish I could have afforded more. I wish I could write more in this blog. I wish I never started it. With the completion of these final tasks I wish I could say "A job well done", instead of "A job, well, done".

And a big thanx to Ken, ATW, who thinks that I'll actually launch. I'll respect his delusions. You must venture deep in the recesses of this blog to decipher what "ATW" is. Even Ken forgot.

Ben's coming! I drag my feet a mite so we can finish the boat together. All the hard work he spent on the project deserved fulfillment. He returns to see the fruition of his labors. We'll muck about together. We entered this fiasco together. We'll finish it together. The circle is full. This will be the final time. We both must plot our own courses, they may not coincide.

So enter with me into this chronicle of the absurd.
Picture
The motor cowls, painted Batman black (hey, he wears a cowl, too). They haven't been on the motors for several months. They've been hanging around, patched, moved around, painted inside and out, and finally placed on deck.

I made a nice pad and installed the external fuel filters on the side of the motor wells months ago. Of course this was a major cranial flatulence in that I didn't take into account the routing of the fuel lines. I had to move them. Phuque!
Picture
And if I lowered them, gravity would assist the fuel delivery. Perfect! I made a couple mounting brackets. I glued them so the carriage bolts would be encapsulated and all I would have to do was put the brackets on and thread the nuts. The white block on the right was the old mounting block. In the center is the new slick mounting block. I glued them on. The filters would be lower and there was plenty of space to route the fuel lines.

Glued in, primed, ready to paint.

While everything was drying, I had to re-solder the wire on one of the under counter lights in the galley. I pried it off, soldered it, coated the solder joint with silicone, and glued it back up.
Picture
Nice, Now I'll just check out the hoses and make sure that the motors will tilt OK.
Picture
And cranial flatulence #2, the motors hit the filters when tilted and I haven't even put the cowls on yet. Phuque again..........sigh. Three days worth of time wasted. Maybe I ain't so smart or clever.
Picture
Yup, doesn't clear and the cowls are taller yet.
Picture
OK, chisel it off and start over.
Picture
And break a chisel off in the process.
Picture
Sand the spot smooth. Coat it with epoxy. Fill in the gouges with thickened epoxy. Put a coat of primer. Start over
Picture
I started over. I decided that my probable best position was to put the filters in the same spot only higher up. So much for the assistance of gravity.

I always told people that we would launch by a Christmas. It looks like it might be this one. Stay tuned, my two faithful followers.
