More Drivel in the Drizzle (What am I, Snoop Dog?)

We connected with Larry (altogether now.... "Who's Larry??") this week and he will move our hulls out of the shop and position them so we can dry fit everything. The price was OK, so he will be by in a week or so. We moved our huge ass table out of the way. Three guys, everybody grab a cornet, lift up, walk five steps, set down, pant a while, repeat as necessary.

Boat goes here. A little imagination wouldn't hurt, folks. We dug out the pallet oak and started preparing it. It will be the reinforcement wood of the beams blocks glued to the beams (Yaaaaaaaawn). I just poured another shot of whiskey and Ben says "Oh, the blog's gonna be good this week..........smart ass........hmmm, maybe there really is an inverse correlation between blog quality and the level of Canadian Whiskey in the bottle..................

Ben and I managed to get the Crown (W W Potter 15-do I have to remind you every time?) back in the water for shakedown cruise #2. We had a great sail and Ben now has a good feel for the boat. He has bonded with his boat. The only memorable experience we had was when the kick-up rudder kicked up and we blew into a patch of weeds close to shore. How come the only great tales of seafaring involve disaster? Anyway, we were stuck! I went to the prow and spotted a tree branch floating in the water. I laid down and reached for the branch, just barely reaching it. My hand felt funny and I drew it back from the branch. FIRE ANTS! My hand was covered with fire ants. Now how can those things be out 10 feet from shore? How can such teeny ants have that big of a bite? I had about seven bites on my hand. Oh, the pole.........I let the ants have it and got a different one from the other side of the boat and poled us out. The bites hurt, then itched.  Grrrrrr, mean ants.

It was general off and on rainyness this week. We worked on filling the screw holes......

We worked on moving all the tables and work surfaces out of the way of the future placement of the hulls. We moved the clamp rack into the Cat Haus and made the hulls accessible for Larry's extended reach fork lift. We also slopped together a rack for the bar clamps.

That mug's tea, not beer...................drat!

Fauna of the week: baby brown snake.

So that was the week. Not much visible progress. I fought the sewing machine for a day, and the machine won!  Oh Yeah, people,  What's going on???? I actually had some blog comments. Are you people bored or something? Mike commented on my advice to boat builders post. And a big Woo-Hoo to him for hanging in there for  the twelve years he'll never get back while he built his Tiki 46. It will be in the water as he scratches his head and wonders "Now What?" Thanks to Nick and Tom for worrying about us (rightly so). Thanks to Marth for actually reading the blog upon occasion. Lastly, thanks to Ken for suggesting Whiskey Kiss's version of the Penguin CafĂ© Orchestra's  "Music For a Found Harmonium". They call it "Jock's Revenge". The group, Tempest, also uses it as their closer. It's delightfully frenetic. I'll let you find it yourself, as I go back to some boat songs.

The Music♫: Richard Thompson, "Mingulay Boat Song"

There are plenty of horrible versions of this song, truly horrible. Richard does a great version, but I still like the Makem and Spain Brothers version a mite better. I put this music out there in the hope that you will shuck your prejudices and listen to something that  maybe  be outside your prevue. Something that makes your socks roll down.  Budge even liked one song- says a lot for him. Our musical tastes seem to be programmed into us during our teen years. Whatever we listened to in High School is the greatest music. It takes a lot to move past that; some never do. This is for Mike, who now has a boat instead of a pile of plywood!
