Is it Dante's inferno that has the sign "Abandon all hope ye who enter here'? Sounds like boat building. September is gone and time keeps on slippin', slippin' into the future. We paused and watched the eclipse of the supermoon (is his girlfriend Lois lune?). So, after drilling the 80 holes by drawing the center point of each hole on both sides of the stern and rudders; drilling from each side halfway so they stayed centered with a progressive set of drill bits from 1/8" to 1/2" by 16ths (7 progressions), and sanding the rough entry points, we filled in each hole with epoxy! Now we can drill each hole again progressively until we get to 17/64"! If I try to drill straight through It does not come through in the center. If I try to straighten out the hole, I get an elliptical hole on the far side. I don't even understand that description! So: pictures:
Driiiiiilllllll the hole! The Boater family, infected by the prime purveyors of pestilence amongst the populace, the American school system, succumbed to illness. Budge was emptying the scuppers the first part of the week, then filling them the latter. He did manage to come out and sand on the hulls a bit, Ben and I did stuff.

We would prefer to continue being the curmudgeon boat builders, thank you. If I could feed just one hungry person and convince one starry eyed dreamer to not build a boat, my life would be fulfilled. It'll never happen, even Budge wants to press on.

Wood is a living, breathing entity. It is not inert (something I long for-me, not the wood). Ben enlarged the crack to fill it later.
I tried to drill out the chain plate holes through the hull. Nope!
See? See? the two bottom ones are great! Don't look at the top two holes! We determined that, if you want to drill a quarter inch hole surrounded by epoxy, Your hole has to be three times larger than the finished hole: 3/4"! These two top holes have now been filled in again (3rd time!).
Ben worked on the rudders he started a couple years ago. This is him working up the chutzpah to begin. Boat building will rip your heart out and stomp on it!

On the bright side, Ben's epoxy mixing capabilities are down to 3 drams!! So. this week you've been around the world in 80 holes and 3 drams! The boat budget (What's that???) is blown for this month and next! What with the wind vane (see last post), butyl rubber for the ports, sandpaper, paint and fillers, we spent over $1500. Shidt!
