A Barn Orb weaver, these guys are very common, and shy. We had lots of fun together. He played dead on command and we played peekaboo. Good times. In the landscape photo, take note of the two trees on the right and left, just out of shot. He had a web anchor between the two. It was thirteen paces, so 30 to 40 feet long. They do this by letting a web silk out, the wind takes it and when they feel it catch, they tighten it, and use it as an anchor so their web hangs out into the open. Spectacular. I gave him a home on the street light where he fares quite well.
Craig and Cristov are Crab spiders, and are quite small. You would not likely want to eat one, but think about them the next time you eat crab, lobster, or shrimp, because they share a phylum with crustaceans. Insects too share the same phylum of arthropods.
Anyway, their little friend, not a crab spider, looks like he participates in spider fight club since he's missing 3 legs. I couldn't find his genus, but he's ugly, even by my standards. I'll have to do some more research to find out what it is.
