Plodding Along

We spent the week mostly gluing in the plywood seam reinforcement plates. There was much varied and colorful language emanating from the bowels of the ship. In the aft cabin, I was kneeling in a tight space reaching below the surface I was kneeling on with my head on the floor so I could stabilize myself while I reached back underneath my kneeling position to access the seams, saying things such as "dubious thoughts upon your ancestry!".  We'll never get the epoxy out of our hair. Ben solved it by going back to the shaved head look only to discover he glued his scalp.

This is the aft cabin. It is shoulder width. Those are the plates in the hole at the top of the picture. I had to use both hands to glue them in and fasten with a brad nailer! While Ben did the lion's share of the work, I worked on other small projects. I found some highly figured oak ad resawed it so I can make panels for some more doors.

The band saw guide had broken last week and the new upper roller guide came in. That helped a lot. The Delta 14 inch Bandsaw: first made in the mid 1930's in the US. It's still being made today. The company has changed names and ownership (Rockwell, Delta) but the saw continued. It's been modified, but basically remains the same. The design is so good that there are many clones of this saw. Mine is probably 50 years old and parts are still readily available for it. There are few tools that compare. The upper blade guide I bought fitted most models, both Delta and clones.  A tribute to good design!

Some more Ebay stuff came in. I got some tax money back to buy crazy stuff. Income tax money is an American custom of paying too much money toward taxes, letting the government use it for a year interest free, getting it back in March, then bragging about it when you could have had it all year yourself. My tax money will go toward a couple of epoxy kits and maybe the masts, I also splurged on some expensive cabin lights.

Oh, yeah, I made some circles!

No, It's not an Irish drinking song. Come to think of it, what isn't? Wait, I'll get a Guinness!
