♫Deck The Hulls With Fir of Douglas♫

The week started with me being down and out. Some kind of illness put me into a continuous state of fatigue, Saturday I went to bed early and took an extended nap in the afternoon. Aches and pains prevailed. All I wanted was sleep.

Budge appreciated the nuanced intricacies and the complex interplay between concept and execution of the latest video. We make no attempt to explain any of this crap to you. You get it or you don't.

We celebrated Thanksgiving by cooking that half turkey we cut last week. This marks the beginning of my annual stay-away-from-all-stores-until-January boycott. We lost the meaning of the season somewhere in the frenzy.
Picture
We positioned the port side motor box and drilled the holes using a hole size.
Picture
You drill until the hole saw bottoms out. Then you smack the hole with a chisel until it snaps off somewhere in the hole creating more space so you can drill the rest of the way.
Picture
Then you discover that the big assed bolts you bought were short assed and another half assed project gets delayed in pursuit  of a diminished bank account.

Ben continued on the deck beams. This week was chopped up by illness weather, holidays, weather, and general malaise...............................................and weather.
Picture
Ben decided to put a small pad of rubber under the deck beams to allow better drainage. The ends have a coat of contact cement.
Picture
A bit of contact cement on the rubber and it's cushioned.
I started the rest of the deck beams. We need 14 deck beams, each consisting of a lamination of three boards. That's 42 six foot long boards. I sanded them up to prepare for laminating.
Picture
Mark the laminating surface. Mark the center sections based on the quality of wood and surfaces. The poorer wood went to the centers. The "C" means center. The "O" outside. The "X" denotes a glue surface. I have to do this, lest I get lost and spend 40 years wandering the wasteland.
In one session I mixed 3 ounces of e-pox-e and put a healthy coat on one gluing surfaces of four beams (only one surface of each beam). I then mixed an ounce and a half of thickened epoxy and glued two boards together. I screwed each gluing with enough screws to make sure of an even squeeze out along both edges. I repeated this process three more times and had 4 beams 2/3rds done. Tomorrow: more. I had to stop and help Ben work on the pod side decks.
Picture
Which go here. Now with wood, you cannot just cut boards and not plan.
Picture
You must account for the maximum utilization of lumber to minimize waste. We determined that each board would give us one center or side deck piece and one front deck piece.
Picture
The first deck board.................except it was too short.....................then it rained..............

Ben's rescue cactus that he found as a stray wandering through the yard. It's potted (the plant, not Ben) and surrounded by beauty so it can flourish in a loving family.
