Everything The Hard Way.

Another week gone. It's starting to get to me. Rain has interfered with my progress. I continue to solve the motor problems one by one, but each one is a lot harder than I anticipated. Yeah, ya gotta suffer if ya wants ta sing the blues. That is what makes the stories. I am looking forward to being able to act more leisurely on projects. I want to feel the water beneath me. Now I'm stepping in puddles. I want waves. Now I wave to the boat yard guys; they wave back.  I want wind filling my sails, Now I wind down my week with grocery sales. I want money again. Now it all goes to the boat (I'm afraid to ask about that boat yard bill). I used to say that we'd launch by a Christmas. Now I think that I'll launch by a Halloween, maybe even this one or even by a different holiday.

On the brightish side, last week's blue funk has dissipated a bit. Now it's more of a teal funk, maybe aquamarine..

And thanks to David, who knows a lot more than me (doesn't everyone? Just ask them......), for his input on the motor problem. I had considered metal bolted to the handle but decided to stay away from the front of the motors because they had to tilt and they had to clear the fuel lines and control cables, which have to move with the motor. It was the tilt that put the kibosh on most of my attempted solutions. That's why many considerations never made it to the experimentation stage.

So enough drivel, I am sure you want to know if I was successful on last week's problem. Oh never mind, you probably don't even remember what it was.

See? This is what I did to keep the motors pointing straight. It stays straight and seems rigid enough. It took four trips to the hardware store. It seems to work, he says with trepidation.............
First the shut off cable. Nothing fancy here, Don't even ask how long this took. I still have to figure out the other end of the cable.

The motors's service manual back from the guys and christened with grease and glops of whatnot. This is the proper appearance for a service manual. I sit and study it to learn what I have to do. After a goodly amount of reading I discover:
1.) I have a headache.
2.) I need a beer.
What to tackle next. This glob of spaghetti wire all goes somewhere and connects to something.
Picture
Well, there ya go now: the wiring diagram. The that is connected to the this which runs around the motor and disappears somewhere in the bowels of the motor............................. Oh crap, I need a different switch to activate the oil pressure warning light. I need an aspirin and a pilsner.

I have been getting input from the yard motor guys. I ask them dumb questions and receive dumbed down answers. I got the gist of the wiring from the book and the guys provided input. Safety switch????? Oh, yeah, I got two neutral safety switches. They're up on the motor controls and just have to be incorporated into the cockpit wiring. I checked them out. One was broken. Another mental blow to the psyche. I need a neural safety switch on this. Oh, yeah, I got two: Acetaminophen and India Pale Ale.

The Music♫: Incredible String Band "Black Jack David"

For Blackjack Boatsmith. This song goes back a longtime. It's origins are lost in the annals of time. My blog should be lost in the annals of bad taste.
