Pulling Out The Stops, Revisited

11/24/2018

The week's beginning started with a drizzle. I didn't want to sit around twittering my thumbs, I don't even do twiddle; I don't know how. Yard dude Robbie gave me a printout parts list to study. I took a nap. Hey that studying stuff is hard.

What did I learn? Life is confusing. The motors are different. Who needs a temperature sensor anyway?

After all that studying, my brain hurt. I decided to attack the stop cables again. If you remember, or, even if you don't remember, I'm going to tell you anyway. Where was I? Oh yeah, if you remember, I did all that bicycle cable stuff to turn off the motors. The cables jammed and I gave up in disgust. All that studying allowed me to consider other options, like a solenoid. That would have involved wires, brackets, push buttons and another spell of figuring it all out. I went back to the bicycle cables. With difficulty, I pulled the cable out of the cable sleeve and discovered that a wire came loose and jammed the cable. I bought two new inner cables. The problem with the original cable was caused by the unraveling of one wire. I had cut one end off to thread it through the sleeve. This time I didn't cut the end off the cable. I filed and filed and filed one end so the lead on the end was thin enough to feed through the ferrules. The lead on the end held the cable wires together

The end in the cockpit had to be pulled so I fooled around quite a bit and discarded a few concepts only because they didn't work. If the cable was 6" longer, it would be better. This almost satisfactory solution involved a cable stop and a stainless ring. It's good enough for now: my current mantra.
I finally finished the start panel, bolted in. Doesn't seem  like much.

I turned my attention to the fuel system on the motors. I'm going to relocate the external fuel filters so they will be lower and gravity can do it's thing. I am tired of figuring out things. There are no established processes. Everything has to be thought through and tested. It wears you down.

So that was my week. I baked a turkey and had a nice Thanksgiving dinner. I am tired. Youse guys hang in there, It will finish.........................
