The Struggle, The Weather, The Blather, Why Bother?

So here I am sitting in a hole drilled in the bottom of a universe that was built by some guy named "God(s)", who is then interpreted by fellows who claim inspiration by that guy and are bound and determined to make you follow some pre-described set of rules that somehow get misinterpreted and end up as man's inhumanity to man. Gosh. I just want to sail around a bit without some manifesto or creed. I know that my way is better than yours, but for me only, and I'm not too sure about that. Your way is better than mine, but for you only.

For the past few weeks, I have had very limited internet. I have to schlep my gear down to the boat yard to access  a signal strong enough to upload my pictures each week. Nothing is easy. Luckily, this week has few pictures.

Meanwhilst, the weather continues. Why do we always have weather(Huh?)? Out there are the herricanes (Florance, Helene) and the himacanes (Isaac). It is rounding the corner and sliding into the Gulf so we can share here, too. It will probably hit further south. Duck Mexico!  Mostly it was wet this week and I couldn't work. It turns out that it's for the better. I was frustrated a lot lately and needed a break. The inclement atmospherics drove me to ground and wouldn't let me come out and play. I stayed away to the point that I was recharged and wanted to get stuff done. At last it was something else's fault and I got excited again about finishing up that current exasperating conglomeration of problems that constitutes the motor installation. This whole motor thing, in retrospect, is one of those decisions that, perhaps, was ill advised. Ill advised? No one advised me; it was my own dumb decision and I suffer for it.

So, what did I do this week? Putzed around. Read books. Finished up the soft shackles. Watched movies. Put up a temporary TV antenna at the house. I'll move it to the boat later. Downloaded all the NOAA ENC charts. Got my annual doctor checkup. You know, breathe in, breathe out, the big mosquito procedure, see ya next year,

What little work I did this week started with me trying to find a place for this bullseye padeye to route the motor pick up line. Motor pick up line: "Hey , babe need someone to check your oil?" I moved it around a lot and finally decided to attach it to the beam. Then it rained.

The motors still have this list of things to accomplish. They must lift up, stay up, fuel up, start up and shut down,  To accomplish this I must have the rope lifting system, a way to release the motor tilt lock, a start panel wired into the cockpit, fuel lines, battery cables, shut off cables run to the cockpit. Each one of these must be figured out. There is no standard way; I'm breaking new ground on most of this stuff. Another big spaghetti pile of problems to solve.

I finished up the 10 soft shackles that I started weeks ago.

The motor wells fill up with water. Once they dry out, I'll clean up the debris so they will drain. Draining that hole in the bottom of the universe.

This is where that padeye ended up. Next, I work on a cleat above deck. If it all works, I'll do the next one
