Boat?????

When Budgetboater moved to the new location, he had to build a new workspace. He constructed it and still has to finish up an few things, like organizing the materials. This is what we did this week. He has enough plywood and Douglas fir to complete two boats. All this material was stacked in the middle of the shop. Something had to be done.

First we had to build racks for the lumber. That grey tarp area to the right (starboard, to get some nautical nomenclature in) contains the pile of lumber. First we had to level the floor with rock. You do remember the rock, don't you? Everything was in the way, so we did what we could stepping around stuff and bumping our heads on the rack, which ended up being at the perfect height so you couldn't see it but your head could hit it. You see that the rock only covers the rack area because everything else was in the way.

So after arranging and rearranging the stack of wood on the rack a few times, the wood was  on the rack. The pile was the refuge of many spiders and lizards, so we had to be careful to chase them away before we moved a board

Finally the lumber was on the rack. Note the old t-shirts tied around the ends of the rack (one too many head bumps). The rack is 16 feet long, four feet deep and one head bump high. Then it was on to the plywood rack.

Pretty simple, just a lot of cross bracing. The weight is mainly on the bottom braces. That's the plywood on the right (starboard).

We then had to load the plywood on the rack (racking our backs on the stack). Again, chasing  the lizards and spiders with one interesting twist. Ben found a Black Widow Spider protecting her egg sack. Ben, being interested currently in the local fauna, has her in an epoxy mixing container outside the house. She is next to the scorpion he found in the last pile of lumber. Neither one of them is happy with the situation. Ah, Texas. Budgetboater says he actually saw a Brown Recluse spider outside in a stack of stuff. Those things are rare, seen by very few people. He said it immediately ran off (how reclusive!).

Finally we were finished. Now we have to haul the rest of the 14 tons rock in to level the floor, arrange the workspace, put up the side area of the enclosure and go back to boatbuilding. I did manage to cut a template for the galley countertop. I have been batting around ideas about the galley arrangement in my head.  Ben is currently laid up, the result of allergies from inhaling fiberglass dust, lizard poop, spider webs and whatever else resided in those stacks.
