We were in Port Aransas for four days (see sign above- no, it's not a sign from above). More about this anon (an' on, an' on, an' on......). First, we worked, Yahu! Ben travailed more on the other side of the mast case. Monday was verrry windy and stuff was blowing around. Ben stood on the nast case while I nailed it together. The wind almost blew him off the table. Texas weather is always too something. Too hot, too cold, too humid, too windy. I guess Ben was doing the Texas too step. Budgetboater continued fitting the forward hatch. That Meranti ply is really chippy. Budge is trying to make them waterproof (mostly). As you well remember (or not), when we unloaded the Mirror dinghy for the first time, Budge said that he would have burned it. The time had come to do just that. On windy Monday, I took all the old mirror parts we cut out and burned them. The bottom, transoms, gunnels, etc. to the flames So, like the phoenix, the new Mirror will arise from the ashes of the old Mirror parts. We have three names for it: Phoenix, VC (for Viking Casket), or Lazarus. She goes out in a blaze of glory. I meanwhilst, worked on finally gluing in all (mostly) that stuff I made for trim. I didn't get all the pictures, as we finished up late on Wednesday, the day before we left. So On to Port Aransas and the wooden boat show. With a side trip to visit the Alamo. Alamo on left, Marriot on right. That must be where the Mexican troops stayed. I understand the parties were wild.................. And the Mexican army had to dodge the traffic................................ Oh, yeah, the boat show. We saw some really really good boats. We looked with a craftsman's eye at the boats and learned. Hey, we're not too bad at building boats. We saw some worse than ours, we saw some better that ours. That puts us smacky dab in the middle. We're doin' OK! This is one woman's first boat and both are beauties! Ben did manage to get on a boat for a very short sail with many thanks to our new friend, Tom. It was night, it was late, but he got to feel the wind on his face. Now we move on to the final push. I'm writing this late Sunday night, so forgive any mistakes.
