Tried And True, Tired and Through

In a week we take off for Ohio. We'll climb into Ol' (T)Rusty and head back next Sunday. That truck has been from Sacramento to Baltimore, from Lake Erie to the Gulf of Mexico. It has hauled five different boats around. It is getting long in the tooth but remains true to us. We are weary and in need of this break, as always, and need to do nothing for a while.

We have to tackle the trash pandas that are attempting to cohabit the apartment. A bit of hardware mesh should do it.

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwww........as long as they stay outside.

The weather was wet and miserable the first part of the week and cold and miserable the last part of the week, ergo,  we did little. We took a break to see David Bromberg in concert.

Budge gave me a shopping list for the electrical system. You don't wanna know how much I spent so far............... Noooooooo Christmas this year! More to spend yet. All in all, it will be a well powered boat with solar panels, wind generator And big batteries.  Next: the quest for wire. Hey, wasn't that a Rae Dawn Chong movie?
Because the small wedge shaped piece will not be strongly supported on the beams, Ben added dowels for strength. He glued them in making sure the space between the boards remained.
Next apply a penetrating oil finish to the deck boards. Apply a liberal amount of oil. Allow oil to penetrate for a half hour or so. Wipe off excess oil and wipe periodically any oil that weeps out. Wait a few hours. Repeat the process with another coat of oil. Wait a day. Turn boards over and do it again to the opposite side. Rosewood nut oil applied by Ohio/Texas nut.

Then reassemble the decks hoping like hell that you can get it lined up again. I won't say......
I sanded the next set of deck beams and softened the edges. We were concerned that the Douglas fir would produce some fierce splinters. I caught a few doing this!

If you're sick and tired of seeing these "coat with epoxy" pictures, imagine how I feel putting coat after coat on all surfaces. Tired. I'll be through this week sometime. Maybe the weather will be nice................Hah! It's hard to show you visual progress when so much time is spent on the mundane. And a fine set of holidays to y'all. Your Christmas song will be next week.
