Am I Excited? Hell Yeah! ..................................I Think....................Maybe

Every one says that I should be getting excited about getting the boat launched. Those of you that have done this know it's not like that. You basically are numb and there is always much to do. I have done this before. When we moved into the "new" house with some boards as stair treads and the kitchen not finished for another several years and no money to complete it. There was no hot water for a few days. But my sons finally had their space and reveled in the fact. We pushed on. Fifteen years later, it was completed. See up there ↑ for Ben's link.

Phyllis, the new Rocky (you remember Rocky Don't you?), came over for a chit chat about the canvas sides of the cockpit. We chatted about chit (horse or bull or both). I described the concept and she later sent a quote. The chit hit the fan and I discovered that Rocky was a great deal. I'm scraping up my pennies for the deposit (suppository) and dealing with the 5 stages of grief (stage one: denial).  That stuff cant be that expensive, can it?

Now the splash, the theoretical penultimate accomplishment of this whole misguided fiasco. All I see is me in an unfamiliar boat in unfamiliar waters (stranger in a strange land) attempting to motor with unfamiliar motors to an final unfamiliar  spot and tie up, something I am unfamiliar with. People think I'm off to adventure and hula girls. I think that there's still a lot of work to do.

Yeah, OK, blog stuff...........
Budge blasted in on Monday. He worked early and stayed late. He set up the correct battery wiring and four of the solar panels. He blasted out after an all too long day.
I worked out the routing of the blocks for the swim ladder. It is basically pretty simple, like me......pretty simple.
Adam started working on the motors. Number one motor runs like a champ. Motor number two is running like number two. Robbie came over and applied his expertise. Something about the governor. Me? I'm in panic mode. Those motors need a start panel, controls, and a bunch of stuff I know nothing about (as usual).

It rained one morning and I discovered that we forgot drain holes in one of the motor wells. I drilled two holes in the port well and waited for them to dry out. After they dried, I epoxy coated the holes. The rain delay allowed me the luxury of harassing the folks a boat registration at the county courthouse. They were new at this boat stuff, so between the two of us, we maybe got it right. I was in full Chuck persona for the occasion (my alter ego).

I hooked up the filters to the two fuel tanks. This took two trips to the big orange box store and one to the auto parts store. Each trip was in excess of $30. This boat stuff............. Yes there are two outlets on the fuel tanks. One is for the return.

I have this big Suunto compass that I installed above the wheel and then nestled it into my clunky brass binnacle. I will add more character such as this to the boat as I progress.
I installed the cockpit ceiling window. It's there to check the sails when under way. Every time you drill a hole, you have to mix epoxy and coat each and every hole.

I prepared to attach these things to hold down the battery boxes. Of course, I had to mix 12 drops (8 drops resin, 4 drops catalyst) of epoxy to coat the holes.  I'll screw them down tomorrow,

So, I leave you both for another week. I have to get only two things done before I leave. The motors are causing the most concern. I also have to paint the final bottom paint. There is much to do, much to do............
