It isn't the big stuff that you buy, it's the small, "take-a-piece-of-hardwood" nit noi, gotta have stuff that runs (ruins) the budget. We needed more oak for blocks, lugs; stuff to attach stuff. The weather took a tiny turn for the worst, a fine excuse for a road trip, and we spent a couple hundred bucks for oak, supplies and glue in a half day trip, not to mention the gasoline! Plus we needed more oak epoxy. Whenever we go out, I feel like that cow crossing the Amazon river in the old Hollywood movies. The cow starts out merrily swimming. Halfway out she encounters a cross cultural experience with the frenzied piranas and only her bones reach the opposite shore. Such is an endeavor like this. If we're lucky, our bones will make it across to the water. There are many ex-idealists with dashed hopes and destroyed dreams that don't. Anyway, thankx to Rune for his question. I try to use Smith's Oak and Teak epoxy around the oak (when I can remember). http://www.glueoakandteak.com/ It's not made from the normal epoxy stuff. It's made from wood squeezings and pixie dust and blessed by the pope. Muuuuuuch better...................... And thanks to Ken, always the wag, for his chipper comment. I'm sure that we did something of import this week. but, as usual I cannot remember. I guess we'll just have to look at the pictures. So, with my mind well lubricated, we press on.
We removed as much of the paint as we could. Ben brought out the pressure sprayer and attacked.

The pod looked like this to start the week. This is Budge's baby and sometimes he tells us what's going on. Let me take a feeble attempt at it. You are looking aft at it. The wheel will be at the bottom left of this picture. The mast will be in front of the pod. On each side of the pod will be seats. You step up on the seats to exit the pod. That box on the floor is a foot rest for the rear seat to be installed aft, sticking over the aft beam. More to come.
Junior Budge (Budgie) was home for the week, so we put him to work. He is at the stage where he can do some tasks well. He is cutting out seat supports for the pod.
They fit on Beam 3 and support the pod seat.
He always bitches about me using too many clamps-Hah! Rear seat glued on. The circles??? They will be cut out (connected) in a T-shaped slot to permit storage of sundry stuff: binoculars, chart books, junk, whatever will fit.

Until all 5 were installed. Glued on seat sits here. The beams are commencing their individual journeys into uniqueness. Lugs, blocks need to be added so....
I glued up blocks for lashing point reinforcements. Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh (red oak), I'm going to have to make sure the ends are triple coated primed and painted to protect it. White oak is tough, red, not so (at all). The trip to the big city replenished our white oak supply. I decided to face glue it up to thickness rather than getting 6/4 stock.
With my frustration with electronics, which have the lifespan of a mayfly, I decided to seek revenge.
Sick and tired of wiggling cords to make it work and my computer turned it's back on it. I decided to definitively end my frustration and it's life. The sobofabitch was trying to kill me!

With plenty of oak glue, we glued in the lashing blocks in beam 2. Thick end grain glue! Ben and Budgie disappeared for a good half day plus and sailed the lake. They dragged back late tired and happy.
Budge glued on the back seat guide of the aft pod seat. Aw hell, don't try to figure it out it may make sense in the future. Then again, it might not..............
Budge glued on the two ends of the pod. Somehow I managed to not take a picture of it. Just picture two ends on the pod. It was St. Patrick's day this week. This is another stolen holiday from other cultures so North Americans can drink disgusting stuff, like green beer. Another is Cinco de Mayo that we celebrate as we build a wall across the southern border. Ben and I ate something green from the back of the refrigerator. I don't feel so well..............
