Back to Texas, this time for sure!
So the little wood gathering and splitting expedition took up 5 days or so. They say wood warms you twice, it's more like 5 times: cutting, hauling, spitting, stacking and burning. Is aching in there? It should be. We were fueled on lots of water and plenty of Ibuprofen. Being a glutton for punishment. Ben nagged me enough, so we cut down 2 more trees dead in the back yard (another day gone). We are tired of wood. I hate cutting down trees. It's extremely dangerous. Bad things can, and have, happened to me cutting trees. This took away my time that I was supposed to spend on the dinghy. We postponed the trip back so I could get it partially glued together. That way it can fit on the trailer. Man plans, God laughs................
We did this from noon, Saturday until Monday evening. Sam now has winter heating. After that, I worked on the dinghy.....................not even close to being ready! I ended up coating all the parts with epoxy and laminating the rear transom together.
The coated parts, with tools on top. This boat was originally constructed right side up, so reinforcing the seams was easy. I realized that I won't have access to the side joints, so after a few days consideration, I decided to cut access holes into the sides and top of the floatation chambers. This will also be storage areas for stuff like Popeil's pocket fisherman and egg salad sammiches. Holey Boat, Batman!
I did get some parts glued in like a bulkhead.
And the side pieces at the rear transom.
I was going to glue the transom in, too, but the weather would not cooperate: rain and high humidity. Epoxy glue don't like humidity. This killed the last two days. Looks like we bring the boat back to Texas in pieces. All in all it was a good vacation. We did lots of stuff and blew out the cobwebs in our brains. We drive tomorrow and the next day and go back to close quarters and 90+ temperatures. Oh, boy!
This song reminds me of this blog! The ending, especially!
