Boat Yard Delusional Dreams And The Fear of Something.

Welcome to another week of non-accomplishments.  As I wind this whole thing down, I cogitate on the what next. A bit of cooler weather. a bit of rain and the sun a bit(ch) produced a lack of progress. This induces ennui in my feeble mental processes.  The parts pipeline delay prevailed for a few days. I did not want to work on the motors until everything was in place.

I look toward the water. Is it calling to me or is it reiterating the  fact that I'm your basic idiot?
I dare not delve deeper lest I find out.

Boat yards are a microcosm of the follies of man. Love. hate, hope, despair and the rest of yer basic emotions all wrapped up in a vessel that is out of it's element. I give my card to every fool that passes. Us fools gotta band together in our quest for validation. I have all those emotions tied up in my boat and, boy, am I out of my element.

I had nothing I wanted to do. The motors loomed over me. The parts did not. There was no fruit of the loom. I had to do something. I needed to accomplish a task, something that would not fail. I decided to work on the motor cowls. This was something that I was going to do later, but I had some time, so why not? I priced new cowls. Holy Crap!! I decided to fix the ones I have,

My backyard cat pile(???). I digress.........count the cats 5? 6?
Oh, yeah, the motors. The epoxy catalyst (part B) squeeze container (compression dispenser) had a blowout and leaked all over the epoxy box. What a mess! I carefully cleaned up everything that was saturated in the catalyst and poured the residue into a new ketchup squirter. The catalyst had junk in it.   All the better as filler material! I discussed the process with Ben, my long distance adviser. He suggested a 100% cotton patch on the inside of the cowls. I liked that better than fiberglass, so I cut up an old tee shirt into patch size patches. This stuff had a tendency to roll up. I saturated the patches and applied them to wherever there were holes through the cowls, especially the corners, and stab brushed them into place. Hey, its the inside, no one will notice.

So here I was deeply enmeshed in the whole motor cowl thing and the motor control parts came in. That little thingy was 25 Bucks. I bought two.
So I had to mount those said brackets on the motor controls. Only one hole lined up. Todd the yard neighbor and carpenter said "Small Victories". This shows that he reads the blog. I realized that it couldn't be a small victory because one hole always had to line up. If two or more holes lined up, it would be a small victory. I had to drill the other 5 holes on both brackets. I then threaded the necessary parts onto the control cables. I stopped. I  wasn't sure if it was a fear of failure or a fear of success. Maybe this is some sort of existential dilemma involving the consequences of either option. They both have their own path. "I came to a fork in the road".............. Robert Frost. "If you come to a fork in the road, take it!"...............Yogi Berra.
So turning to procrastination being the better part of valor, I returned to the cowls. I decided to use poly micro fiber pulp as the initial filler for the cowl exteriors with the idea that this may or may not be a bit more flexible to handle the motor vibrations. Will it work? Why do you ask this? How the hell should I know? Epoxy is like alchemy every sorcerer has his secrets. I put a coat on and waited a day. I sanded it down and mixed a bit of epoxy with cellulose filler for the final filler.  I'll scuff sand and paint next. What color? Something, I'm sure.

I was tired Friday. It was late and Yard manager Gary stopped to chat a mite. When you work alone, a conversational respite is always appreciated. I was tired and forgot to close a hatch and put my tools away. God found out and being the joker like Coyote or Loki or whatever myth you prefer, decider to dump a bunch of rain in the middle of the night. I spent a goodly chunk of the day drying and oiling.

I had to dry the bags also.
My stabbing back pains are getting better. I have to walk around to loosen it up.  So, next week will be better...............hahahahahahaha,
