Iced Over

12/7/2013

That damn Neil in England works by himself in snow, sleet, monsoon, typhoon, rain and even balmy days!  AND he'll launch before we do!  He makes us feel bad for stopping for a little ice storm. So here we wussed out and took a couple days off because of the ice storm. But in defense, we have 2 sides of the shop exposed to the elements.

This was the week of small parts. Before the temperature dropped, we had shirt sleeve weather. Mostly we worked on our separate projects. Budgetboater worked on the other side deck for the port hull and the tumblehomes.

Ben worked on a bunch off small parts that no one will see. Like a repair to the hull that blew over in the Texas winds and fell on a jack stand which punched a rectangular hole in the side. Budget boater cut the piece out and made the patch. Ben made the backing plate for it These boats are easily repairable.

He built stair supports and beam trough supports. This is all custom fit stuff that takes a bunch of time and will never be seen.

So, on the snow day, I decided to get our $25  (with $100 worth of parts and repairs) sewing machine running. I don't know how to sew and the machine is a Singer 306W from the 1950's with a rotary hook that is pretty finicky and was out of adjustment. I spent the whole day going through the repair manual and adjusting the rotary hook so it  will sew. The repairs were so-sew.............. I managed to sew a straight line and did a lot of reading about how it works. Huzzah!   Now it has to earn it's keep.
