Scratching, Latching the Hatch, Machinations Of Launch, And The Mud Dauber's Revenge

Oh gosh and golly, I'm getting closer to my dream, whatever that was. I think it involved gingerly placing this vessel into the water. Yeah, I may have been procrastinating a mite using the yard's tardiness as an excuse. I finally went in and said "Lets do this"! Robbie convened a convocation and we scratched our heads and we scratched our butts (one of those should work). A consensus  was reached and we decided to not to install the propeller guards fearing they would exacerbate the damage when confronting a bit of aqueous flotsam. Head (and only) Yanmar guy, Adam came up with an approach that involved me buying more stuff (what else?) to facilitating the lifting of the motors. The yard will basically install the lifting eyes, put the motors in place, and tell me what gets hooked to what. I will make a panel, install the controls and wiring to the start buttons.

So here is the next episode in my feeble attempt to achieve the current concept of my dream, yet, no matter what we do, it's still a fetter. Maybe the Buddhists got it right: chuck it all and just be, no matter where you are.

With a paucity of material, I endeavor to produce a readable installment of my weekly blog. I hope you two followers appreciate the attempt at the alchemy of turning base materials to gold.
OK, after digging out the huge epoxy box one too many times, I decided to switch back to a smaller kit. I scratched my butt and wandered through endless aisles of plastic boxes/ I finally decided on a small ammo (isn't that Latin for "love"? More like Texan for love) box. It was too small. The box had to secure the compression dispensers (squirt bottles) that holds the epoxy. I went back and bought a bigger amour box that came close. I went back to the motto of "Ya buy something good, remanufacture it and you have something that works", This box had a tray that inset and would not allow the squirt bottles to stand upright. I got the hole saw out and cut 4 holes in the tray. It'll do. I'll probably cut them a bit larger later With that modification, the box works great. It has the tray and a snap open compartment in the lid.

The boat yard came up with this counterbalanced motor removal device. Is that the trasher-masher-smasher? No one got hurt and the motor was out.
I find myself doing small projects that are not necessary to me sitting on the hard. I have basically two things to do: the motors and a coat of bottom paint. Although the hatch holders in the two forward cabins looked really cool, they, in actuality worked like crap. They tended to bind and at least on one occasion jammed closed necessitating contortions to reach in and get them open again. I was doing small stuff this week, so I pulled out the hatch holders and replaced them with the spring type. Ya never know unless ya try. I dropped a couple things into the beam trough. They rolled under the beam. The beams only touch the hull at the edged of the hulls. There is plenty of room for stuff to fall down and roll underneath. I scrounged around and yard guy, Gary found a bit of aluminum wire lying on the shop floor. It was perfect It was bent at a right angle and could sweep the stuff out from under the beam.
I made these hatch handle holders a while back. I wasn't doing much, so I installed them. This was a more tedious project than it looks. It involves a whole lot of tweaking to get everything to go together.

Being basically a cheap person, I am adapting some clamp lights that I bought in garage sales to 12 volt. It involves a 12 volt plug and E26 based 12 volt bulbs. At the end of the day, I sat and wired up one. I now have 4 complete with no bulbs. I bought the wrong ones.
So the guys started on the motors. All that afore mentioned head scratching produced a decision to reinforce the area where I will have the lifting eyes and add a couple more bolts to that area to provide more support. I dropped off my aluminum sheet and he cut out two reinforcing plates that will bolt to the motors.  Adam also decided to add a rubber backing to the aluminum plate to accommodate any irregularities in the mating surfaces.

All that afore mentioned butt scratching produced a decision to remove the intake tubes and check them out. In the middle tube of the motor that didn't run very well there was a carbon coated mud daubers nest clogging the intake. No wonder why it ran like crap! I feel better that maybe buying those motors wasn't too much of a dumb idea.

After a hard day in the yard, the guys like to exercise with a few push-ups.
