So Now I've Seen One

So we're flipping through the pieces of plywood trying to find  a piece for the galley shelf and come upon a spider that looked pretty nondescript to me. Ben captured it for a photo session and the nearest we can figure, it's a Brown Recluse. I am no longer going to dig through that flippin' plywood!  Come to think of it, I'm checking under my bed.

The black widow captured earlier. That does it! I'm sleeping with a knife in my fist in case one runs across me in the middle of the night.  Hmmmmmm,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

So we were off on separate tangents this week.  Budgetboater worked on the fore deck and realized we had the bulkhead off by an inch. He worked on that by cutting it out,  moving it back and straightening it out.

He also started to repair the hole in the hull that happened  when the hull blew over in a Texas windstorm. The hull landed on a jackstand that punched a neat rectangular hole in it.  Some joints popped also and we have been reglueing them as we go along. They had not been filleted yet.

Me??? What have I been doing???? I've been stuck in the muddle of analysis paralysis. I've been working (or not) on the galley. This is an area that is important to me because it will be the hub of the boat. I want what I call the fit and finish to be right. I have been self boggleing on all aspects of this area. It's gotta be pretty. I've been wrestling with the many areas and the cabinet storage area. I have changed and rechanged my mind about this. Sometimes we are our own worst enemy.

Sometimes I'm grateful to be working in a temperate climate!

Hi, must be nice to be working in December in short sleeves!! Although I could do without all those spiders:) Could you provide some detail about the "Some joints popped..". I haven't as much build experience but in my experience the wood fibers have failed before the epoxy joint. Did your wood or epoxy "pop"? Thanks

The boat blew over onto a jack stand in a big Texas wind. The hull had been glued, but there was no reinforcement of the joints. It was basically plywood to edge plywood. We had not gotten to the fillets yet. Usually just the ply separates. The jack stand punched a neat hole in the side, Picture the hull resting on it's side on that one point. As a result of the twisting, some joints came free. Most wood glues are stronger than the wood. You can see the hole in later posts. Epoxy is strong!
