We will be driving to Ohio on Monday, arriving Tuesday evening. We wanted to get the brunt of the interior finished so we sanded the port cabin (the last one) and decided to touch up the fillets a bit by smoothing some new fillet material (hint: epoxy sets up really fast when the temperature is in the upper 80's. I was obsessing over the corners a bit too much, By Wednesday the sanding and touch ups were finished. Ben has a saying "The more you sand, the lower your standards". I devolved from the pursuit of perfection to the acceptance of "good enough". You never ger the corners right. We coined the phrase "If you can't be competent, be confidant." It's a great Boat!!!!! Anything constructed by man should reflect the hand of the craftsman. Seeing while sanding is nigh on to impossible. The sweat fogs your goggles and the dust coats them so everything is obscured. Both of us were working together on the sanding until we looked like this. On Wednesday we wiped down the cabin and applied the first coat of primer with temperature in the upper 80's again. Although there was a nice breeze, none of it got inside the hull. There is plenty of sweat in the paint (another hint: do not presume you can consume legumes the day before you work inside the hull). Then we applied another coat of primer. By Friday evening we had two coats of paint on the cabin. Painting under the steps was fun........... It finally looked like this. Ben also painted floor parts and inside the galley cabinets for light reflection. At the end of the week we were working on dorade boxes. We coated a bunch of plywood parts. Booooring! And more plywood parts (and more boooring). Budgetboater and Mrs. Boater reluctantly returned from Mexico on Friday. They dumped the wee ones, "Grin" and "Bear it", on their grandparents (they saw elephants)! We will spend most of Sunday getting ready for the trip back to Ohio and maybe finishing up the parts coating process. We will be gone for about 3 weeks. I'll try to post a smattering of information from my smattered brain when I'm there so you won't be bored........oop, too late, you're already bored. When we return, we will be working on mostly exterior construction. Yuhu! Maybe returning to Ohio from the Galapagos............................
