So, here we are, starting this blog in the middle of the project. This all started somewhere lost in time (2007) when Budgetboater advertised a co-build of 2 Wharram Tiki 38 catamarans. We were to pool our money and buy the materials and build them simultaneously. Somehow, that didn't work as planned (too many hulls). Budgetboater then pushed on with my boat alone and I came down to help a few times. I knew that I didn't want to build the boat because I was building my house and it wasn't finished. Time moved on and I pushed on with the house build, while Budgetboater got tangled up with family and moving into a new workspace..

Enter my son, Ben, a year and a half ago who decided to that as long as I fed him, he would help with the project. We then spent that time finishing the house. We manufactured baseboard molding out of oak and installed it; had carpeting installed; built ash kitchen and bathroom cabinets; built a thick teak countertop in the kitchen; built a set of ash bookshelves; and any number of small projects. Ben has become an accomplished woodworker in the process.

Many months and a smashed thumb later, we were finished. We moved my in other son, Sam and girlfriend, Emily into the house. Ben and I moved to Texas  the beginning of August  to finish the boat. This will take  several months.

These aren't the boat pictures, they're the completed house.

To anyone who asks "when will the boat be finished?" I simply answer "Three years ago last January!"
