The Miserable Cold of February, Pod Concepts, and the Many Roads to the Same Place.

Thanks to Tom for the link to (another) discussion about Jordan Drogues. It is always difficult to glean actual facts for such discussion. It seems that the magic word, whispered in awe, that seemingly weaves it's way into many discussions is "dyneema". I plan on never using the drogue.......but......... The Budge Kidz brought the latest version of pestilence from the germ factory. Ben had the cold to a minor degree. Budge was flattened for a day and I stumbled around hacking up chunks of lung the entire week. The weather? Gorgeous! Perfect epoxy weather Temperature in the 70's, low humidity.

Like the nine circles of hell, we decended into the whatever iteration of whatever we're calling the pod/cockpit (podpit?). Somewhat solidified to a variation of the original design, the conceived, rejected, rejuvenated variants of the pod, too numerous to mention, have boiled down to a simple essence, not far evolved from the original, a dropped floor, extended seating space without the watch bunk. We will concern ourselves with the top later, after we see what the hell we have, There was that old song introduction by Bud and Travis. "This song originally had only five verses and they were exactly the same. We changed it and now there are six................... and they're exactly the same." So goes the podpit.

Budge gave up drawing and, with the amalgam design rattling around his mind, started construction. Ben and I smile and nod......it keeps him happy.

Having taken care of the nine circles, I momentarily worked on the 8 Dorade boxes (seven swans a swimming next). I inserted a screw into each one to resist the twisting motion induced when one removes the cap. It's just an extra precaution involving...

An angle drill and..

An offset screwdriver (and cursing)

Ben worked on the Sail O Mat mounting plate. I worked on my taxes.........gave up, gave them to a professional.

We put the aft beam in place only to discover.......

We cut the stern posts for round tubing: square peg, round hole. I cut the bottoms square. A couple plates on either side will be applied, as per plans. Another damn retrofit! As soon as you change something, it affects other things and pings around to other areas necessitating more changes.

First thing we did this week was glue the beam support blocks onto the beam troughs.

It has been said that a camel is a horse designed by a committee.

Budge and Ben worked on the pod a lot.

Glassed and filled the floor and seats.

Seat supports glued in.

Box at the aft seat (I dunno)

We're back to the gritted nitty of boat building: I sliced my finger on the fiberglass while trimming the seats. Ben and Budge managed to drive a nail from the nail gun into Ben's finger (when I nod my head, you hit it!). Luckily (?) the nail hit the bone and the finger bounced back. I've been digging meranti splinters out my hands. Normal stuff. Ben says he's OK.

The official yard roadrunner is back looking a mite plump. Must be egg laying time.

The flowers are out. Yes, that is a butterfly, well camouflaged.
