Yard Life, Less Strife, On My Own......The Last Man In The Yard.......

I first want to tell you that I finally got my last Saturday blog on Tuesday, of was it Wednesday? Anyway, if you missed it, go back and check it out.

I posted a couple videos also. Budge did the work on them.

For the first time in this build I am on my own. It's different with no one to consult and bounce ideas off. I am adjusting, looking at (real live) cats as a boat companion, driving in the crazy tourist traffic of Galveston and finding my rhythm.

I met some boat people. Are they all crazy as loons? I know I am, but there doesn't seem to be one sane one in the lot. Oh crap, maybe I don't fit here either or worse, maybe I do.

Neil raised his glazed gaze from his navel and sent a nice letter of encouragement. I am amazed that you two followers continue to read this massive missive on the follies of men.

There's crap piled everywhere in the hulls. Some of it is necessary; some of it I brought along just in case I might need it. Daunting, to say the least. You know, plod along and it will be done.

On Sunday I took a break from the boat and again made the 12 hour round trip to pick up everything I forgot. Holy crap! There was a lot more than I thought. That was my break.

My pile of working stuff, covered and uncovered. I brought down another table and promptly filled it up!
Off and on for a few days was gluing and epoxy filling of all the hits the boat took in the move. I spent the week doing a lot of small stuff. It is interesting trying to put epoxy fillers into the mixing cup in the Galveston winds, especially silica.

I screwed down the final pieces of the fore decks and center deck that we left off so we could transport.

I put the nuts on the 1" bolts holding the motor boxes.

I mounted the four blocks on the cockpit below the beams to keep the it in place when things get bouncy.

When we changed the cockpit design, we decided to add a couple reinforcing straps as a just in case measure, for peace of mind (not that I have one, or even a piece of one).

I bolted on the oak cheeks to the mast case for the anchor rollers.

The aft deck support beam bolted and ready for the deck. Look up.

Friday was adventure day (Yay!). I started to get some rope to lash the decks only to discover that the boat decided to repaint the port aft cabin on it's own. During the move a half gallon of paint dumped upside down, It was the locker that stored the rope and sails. So there I was hauling everything out of the cabin and letting it dry. There was very little paint on the rope and sails (yay!). The yard guys were coming after lunch to fly the batteries and deck. I spent my lunch hour laying on my stomach in that aft cabin sopping up paint with  a half of a roll of paper towels saying "ow, ow, ow". It was cramped and uncomfortable.
The yard dudes, Gary and Robbie, who think I'm crazy, flew the batteries and battery box (dropped it) to the center deck. We also flew the final aft deck into place.

My thoughts returned to the newly painted aft cabin. Rather than just cram the stuff back in, I inventoried everything and logged it in my notebook so I knew what everything was and where it was stowed. Knowing me, I'll probably lose the notebook. I finally finished it and covered up all my tools. I looked up. I was the last man in the yard.........

Saturday Budge showed up to work the electric. I helped him when He needed it. We discovered that we had forgotten to bring a couple things and that slowed progress. He found stuff to keep him busy.
He started the battery box,
Between the hulls, Budge is using heavy duty sewer hose as conduit to feed both hulls and cockpit. That should protect the wiring.
I worked off and on on the deck lashing all day between being the third hand for Budge. I tried a couple options for lashing and finally settled on something. Using my homemade hot wire cutter. I cut lengths of deck lashing line. Then I tied a loop in one end and threaded it over the deck support beams and back through the deck blocks. Stick the bitter end through the loop, pull it tight and tie a couple hitches. Budge took off for the day. It's a long haul for him.  I worked a little bit longer, Finally, I ran out of energy. Only one deck left to finish. I decided to call it a day. I covered the tools. I looked up. I was the last man in the yard...............
