Remember the Port Aransas Wooden Ply Boat show? The one I wanted to bring my boat to?

Pop quiz: Guess where the eye of  hurricane Harvey slammed into the Texas coast?

There you have it, God reads this blog!

A few days of off and on rain slowed us down and the storm situation placed the progress into limbo, but it's a minor thing for us compared to the folks in Houston and Port A.

So I now delve into the wonderful world of upholstery. There's Rocky, the upholsterer, Valerie, the mattress advisor, Budge, the sage, John, the fabric deal, and Chuck, the confused. The world of ISD, Talalay, Dunlop, foam, batting (not hatches), solution dyed acrylic, and, of course the perpetually drained wallet. I'm numb, dumb and flummoxed.

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

We cannot just blame Hurricane Harvey for our failure. We are closer than I thought we'd be. Budge is finishing up the plumbing and electric. I am varnishing. There will always be something to finish on the water.

What we lost is the place to reassemble the boat, and the ancillary businesses to support the process.

We decided to proceed with the mattresses and cushions here. I am procuring the materials (more damn sticker shock). The cushions will be green (seagrass, if you must know). It was the best deal I could find on SunbrelIa fabric. I have the two densities of foam ordered, and the mattresses ($$$$).

We sent out 3 or 4 bid requests for the standing rigging. We only received one bid. The rest have not responded. I'll commit next week.

So, there they are: the masts. Next, a couple hundred dollars worth of paint.

We put three coats of paint on the pod top bottom (Huh?). The paint was behaving very strangely and was drying almost immediately. Budge had to help because it was drying so fast.
Picture
Once painted, we flipped the pod top over and Budge cut the notch for the mast.

He dug out the foam so I could.....

Glue in some wood to seal the ends.

Budge was doing this.

And this.

And this, Today he worked plumbing and electric simultaneously: He wired the pumps (I forgot how many pumps we have).
Picture
With Budge mostly out of the center cabins, I returned to varnishing. I had removed the doors to simplify the varnishing.

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.....So tomorrow we press on so we cal pull it off.

The Music♫: Claire Anne Taylor "Shelter From The Storm"

Man, Houston is a mess. Finally, it's good that we are not finished lest we be there.
